Shanti is commissioned to provide:
Day Care Services
Our
day care service is available 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, from 10.00 am
to 4:30 pm. Care managed Asian older people and adults with substantial
physical, sensory disabilities and mental health problems are eligible for
our day care service as part of a care package.
Luncheon Service
5
days a week from 12:30 noon to 2 pm. Halal, non-halal and vegetarian meals
available.
Transport
Transport is provided as part of a
care package to care managed service users and resident in the borough.
Drop-in Centre
Shanti offers a daily drop-in
centre for older people and their carers from Mondays to Fridays.
Health Education and Healthy Living
Shanti organises an extensive health education and
health awareness programme to promote personal, mental and physical
well-being incorporating practical activity and sessions on a wide range of
topics including; Yoga meditation/exercise sessions, gentle exercise, art
therapy, talks on stroke, diabetes, coronary heart diseases, cancers,
hypertension tests, personal and community safety with a range of health and
social care practitioners visiting and supporting Shanti users.
Shanti organises an
annual programme of women only activities, cultural events to celebrate all
the main faiths, regular trips and outings to enable users to go shopping,
see Bollywood movies and visit places of interest. This year, 42 users and
carers went on a day trip to Eastbourne.
Support for Carers
All
services and activities are available and set-up to meet the needs of the
Asian carers.
Advice and Information Service
A
multi-lingual service providing advice, information and sign posting
services on welfare rights and benefits, home help, respite care, community
safety initiatives, access to wheel-chair facilities, aids and adaptations,
and referrals to other specialist agencies for users and their carers.
The Pensions and Works
Department team holds it local fortnightly surgeries at Shanti Centre which
are accessible to and used by all local residents.
Ethnic Minorities Elders Group
As
part of its commitment to empowering and engaging older people, Shanti has
supported the development of the Ethnic Minorities Elders Group(EMEG), a
user led Group which works in partnership with Shanti Centre on activities
for and issues affecting older people. EMEG has now become a fully
independent organisation, with an active management committee which
successfully raised £1500 from Hammersmith Council to deliver basic IT
training sessions and yoga sessions for older people.
A new Mini- Bus
TAHA successfully raised funds to
purchase a new 14 seater mini-bus fully adapted for use by people with
disabilities. We thank all those who supported our fundraising events. We
particularly thank The City Bridge Trust for their financial support towards
costs of our new mini-bus and to Help the Aged for their advice and guidance
and small grant.
